The Sheldon Museum is introducing the Chilkat Valley Study and Discussion Group. This new program will help individuals learn about the area where they live and encourage community pride. There will be information available at the Open House this Saturday December 14th from 1 to 4pm, or call Scott at 766-2366.
The public is invited to Sheldon Museum’s Open House this Saturday December 14th from 1 to 4pm. There will be live holiday music; ornaments, card making and other crafts for kids; toys to play with and two special holiday exhibits. On display will be Buck Roger’s Sonic Ray Gun, Buddo the Happi Time Horse and other treasures from the community in the Antique Toy Show. All the holiday fun is happening this Saturday December 14th from 1-4 at the Sheldon Museum.

Magi Hubert will be telling her travel stories at the Presbyterian Church in Haines on December 17th at 7:30pm. She left New York with a one-way ticket to Moscow, and 10 months and 38 border crossings later she’s back in Haines with a collection of photos and stories to share. The Taiya Inlet Watershed Council will be showing the family friendly Wild and Scenic film festival on Thursday, December 12 at AB Hall starting at 6pm. Admission tickets will benefit projects and educational programs. Films are about nature, adventure, conservation, and indigenous cultures. The crane in the Portage Cove Harbor will be down until further notice for repairs and maintenance. We hope to have it back on line by the begining of January.
As a reminder to Haines residents, the annual Cookie and Candy contest entries are due December 13th by 3 pm. Participants can drop them off at the Visitor Center. There's an open House on December 14th from noon to 3 pm, with Santa pictures from 1 to 3 pm. For more information call the Visitor Center at 766-2234.
The U.S. Army Garrison, Fort Wainwright, Department of Public Works is holding a meeting of the Restoration Advisory Board for the Former Haines Fuel Terminal, December 12th at 7pm. This meeting will include an update on environmental restoration activities at the former fuel terminal. This meeting is open to the public and Army representatives and contractors will be available to answer questions. That’s Thursday, December 12th, 7pm at the Chilkat Center.
