The U.S. Army Garrison, Fort Wainwright, Department of Public Works is holding a meeting of the Restoration Advisory Board for the Former Haines Fuel Terminal, December 12th at 7pm. This meeting will include an update on environmental restoration activities at the former fuel terminal. This meeting is open to the public and Army representatives and contractors will be available to answer questions. That’s Thursday, December 12th, 7pm at the Chilkat Center. Haines Public Library is hosting a Children’s Book Event entitled Hanukkah in Alaska, this Saturday December 7th at 2pm. Author Barbara Brown will read from the book Hanukkah in Alaska and answer questions about Hanukkah and the dradle game. There will be a video-conference connecting Haines library to Anchorage for this event. That’s Hanukkah in Alaska, this Saturday starting at 2pm at the Haines Public Library.
The public is invited to attend Wreaths Across America, happening in Haines this Saturday December 7th. This is an event which brings holiday wreaths to soldier and veteran graves. Those interested in attending can meet at the American Legion at 9:30am to drive to the Dalton Cache border station. The ceremony is expected to end at 11:30am, followed by a potluck lunch at the American Legion. Wreaths Across America, this Saturday December 7th.
The Dahl Memorial Clinic invites the public to their Yuletide Open House Wednesday December 11th from 3 to 5pm. Food will be provided. That’s a Yuletide Open House at the clinic, December 11th at 3pm.
Community Ed is holding a Bazaar this Saturday December 7th in the Haines elementary school gym and cafeteria. This will be going on from 10 until 2. There will be more than 60 vendors selling arts, crafts and holiday treats. The public is invited to this Holiday Bazaar, happening this Saturday at the Haines school.
The public is invited to a Yuletide Ball at the Skagway Rec Center, December 14th from 8pm until midnight. Several local musicians will be featured, including Nicole Edwards and Annie Avery. A Rhythm & Blues Christmas at the Yuletide Ball, happening Saturday December 14th at the Skagway Rec Center.
Haines School will be presenting two concerts at the Chilkat Center. Grades K-6 will perform at the Chilkat on Tuesday, December 10th starting at 6:30pm; Grades 7-12 will perform at the Chilkat Center on Wednesday, December 11th starting at 6:30pm. An optional donation will be requested at the door. Food and beverages will be for sale during intermission. The public is invited to enjoy the entertainment and help support our young musicians!
Lynn Canal Community Players will be presenting Vonya & Sonya and Masha & Spike December 6th through the 8th at the Chilkat Center. This is a 2013 Tony Award winning comedy with adult themes, guaranteed to make the audience smile. That’s a theatre production at the Chilkat Center, Friday and Saturday at 7pm and a matinee on Sunday at 2pm. Tickets sold at the door.
Skagway Volunteer Fire Department is inviting the public to their Yuletide Open House, Friday December 6th from 2 to 4pm. This will be located at 501 State Street, on the corner of 5th and State Street. That’s a Yuletide Open House, happening this Friday December 6th.
The Skagway School District is seeking proposals for lighting upgrades to an LED system for the gymnasium, library, and shop area. Proposals will be accepted until 4:00pm on December 4th. Faxed proposals are acceptable, and can be sent to 983-2964. For more information call 983-2960.
