Northwords Writer's Symposium in Skagway 6/1
Skagway's annual North Words Writers Symposium will be held from May 29 thru June 1, 2013.
This provides an excellent opportunity for Skagway local adults and teens with interest in writing to learn and build on that interest with a diverse faculty of published authors and thinkers from the North. The Skagway Arts Council offers financial scholarships to locals who want to take advantage of this event.

Thank you for the Chilkat river clean up 5/16
Alaska State Parks would like to thank the Chilkoot Indian Association, Takshanuk Watershed Council, Brad Ryan and all the participants to numerous to list, who helped with the May 4th community clean-up day for the Chilkat River and Haines Hwy corridor. It was another fantastic year for trash and litter removal, the Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve looks great, thank you everyone, your help is appreciated.

Summer 2013 Flash Mob Celebration 5/22
The Haines Visitor's Center invites the community to the Summer 2013 kickoff celebration on Wednesday, May 22nd. There will be a dance routine competition performed spontaneously on the Cruise Ship Dock between Haines residents and a cruise ship crew. This flash mob competition will be led by Zumba instructor Jackie Ruggerio & practice is slated for Saturday, May 11th. All ages and ability levels are invited to participate. Ski Tour Map Changes 5/31
The Haines Borough Approved Commercial Ski Tour Areas Map may be amended annually by assembly resolution. Proposals for map amendments may be submitted to the Borough Manager from Wednesday, May 1st through Friday, May 31st. Summer Youth Theater Conservatory 6/8
Registration is open for the Lynn Canal Players’ Summer Youth Theater Conservatory, three weeks of theater fun culminating in a full length play. The Conservatory will be held July 1st through July 21st & is open to students ages 8 to 18, or a half-time for students ages 5 to 7. This year’s play is “The Magic Lamp of Aladdin.” Registration forms available at the School, at the downtown Book Store, or at chilkatcener.org/partners call 766-2708 for more information.
Food Safety Training Skagway 5/18
The Skagway Garden Club is seeking 10 interested participants to attend a Food Farm Safety training in July. The training will cover techniques for producing, handling, and distributing fresh produce in a safe way. Anyone who would be interested in this training can call Charolette at 612-0115. Again, 10 participants in Skagway are needed for the Food Safety Training to occur. 612-0115 is the number to call.
