State health officials remind residents that Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning is an ever-present danger in locally harvested shellfish including clams, mussels, cockles and oysters. PSP can cause a tingling sensation in your lips and fingertips, followed by numbing of your arms and legs, and in some cases can lead to death. Anyone experiencing these symptoms should seek immediate medical care. PSP cannot be cooked or cleaned out of shellfish. More information is available by calling(907) 269-7285.

The 25 mile trail was just reset on Friday the 17th after the recent snowfall, thanks to Jim Stanford. It's a beautiful 10K loop that hugs the river. The Alaska Permanent Fund application time is now and there is no easier way to remember and support your favorite non-profit. When you file your application online you can also Pick, Click and Give to your local radio station. KHNS is one of the many charitable organizations you will find when you file for your PFD.
In 2011 KHNS received $1050 in contributions that went directly towards a new production computer for the KHNS newsroom. Our radio station is a nuts and bolts operation, comprised of many moving parts that need tender care. This year we are hoping to double our gift amount to assist in ongoing projects at KHNS.
