Part-time News Reporter and Morning Host

KHNS seeks an energetic, committed news reporter. The news reporter serves under the direct  supervision of the News Director and is responsible for hosting the morning news hours on KHNS, providing support to the News Director and some office support. Position is starting 20 hours per week, Monday thru Friday.

Example of duties:

·        Revising news scripts and updating news for web content

·        Daily production of weather, road conditions and community calendars

·        Some news writing

·        Eventual hosting morning news on KHNS

·        Assist News Director as needed

Required Qualifications: Top 3 +

  • Computer proficiency with Word and Excel
  • Excellent writing skills;
  • Comfortable with internet and website content management;
  • Ability to work effectively (and enthusiastically) in collaboration with a variety of people, both in groups and one-to-one;
  • Commitment to independent media;
  • Proven ability to carry out multiple activities and responsibilities in one job;

Desired Qualifications:

·        Experience with audio/editing program a plus (will train)

·        Strong on-air presence (will train)

·        Journalism background/experience a plus; some training provided. 

·        Public Relations and Marketing experience helpful

Job opportunity - 10-15 hrs/wk

Chilkat Center Facilities Maintenance/Custodial Worker 

   

The Facilities Maintenance/Custodial Worker position is responsible for the overall cleaning and minor maintenance of the Chilkat Center for the Arts (CCA) and works under the direction of the General Manager of KHNS. This is a casual, part-time (10-15 hours per week) position with no benefits. Hours are flexible in conjunction with the Chilkat Center schedule. This job description reflects the assignment of essential duties and responsibilities. It does not prescribe or restrict the tasks that may be assigned.

DUTIES:

 Perform routine inspection of facilities for health and safety concerns as well as notation of required repairs and upkeep. Provide a monthly inspection report to the business manager. A copy will be included in the regular report to the Haines Borough.

Monitor the janitorial needs of the Chilkat Center. Perform and maintain the overall cleanliness of the facility in relation to the CCA schedule. Perform the tasks within the scope of general janitorial activities and prioritize as directed by the KHNS Business Manager.

Perform snow blowing and snow shoveling to maintain safe public access to facility and activities scheduled here.

Perform tasks of general maintenance and upkeep.

Maintain an inventory of tools and equipment belonging to the Chilkat Center. Tools and equipment assigned to the Chilkat Center by the Haines Borough shall be clearly marked and shall remain on the Chilkat Center premises.

Collect trash and clean bathroom in KHNS office.

Coordinate with Haines Borough Maintenance personnel as required.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: 

 Knowledge of accepted practices to maintain cleanliness of public facilities and workplace.

Knowledge of tools and equipment to perform general maintenance, janitorial, and repair tasks safely and efficiently, as may be required.

Ability to work well with the public

Ability to work independently.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS

High school graduation or equivalent.

Must be physically capable of climbing, reaching, kneeling, and bending. Physically capable of lifting 55 pounds.

Alaska driver’s license.
