According to Alaska State Troopers, an avalanche today (Saturday) near Haines at about 11 am injured a guide with Southeast Alaska Backcountry Adventures. The guide was testing snow conditions and had deemed it unsafe for clients when the avalanche struck. He was buried for 30 mintues before recovered, located by his emergency beacon. CPR was started and he was flown to Haines by a SEABA helicopter and transported to the clinic. As of 2 pm he was in critical but stable condition and getting ready to be flown to Providence in Anchorage.
